Man was the direct creation of God: body, soul and spirit; not in any sense the product of a macro-evolutionary process (Genesis 2:7), but made in God’s own image and likeness for His glory and originally acceptable in the sight of God as being “very good” (Genesis 1:26).

By personal disobedience to the revealed will of God, Adam became a sinful creature and the progenitor of a fallen race (Genesis 3:17; Romans 5:12) who are universally sinful (Romans 3:23) in nature and practice (Ephesians 2:1-3) and have within themselves no possible means of gaining merit in God’s sight (Isaiah 64:6). Furthermore, man is alienated from the life of God (Ephesians 4:17-18) and subject to the power of the devil (2 Corinthians 4:4).
